Vermont Hike to Little River State Park

June 18th, 2009

I’m in Vermont, on vacation, staying at my sister’s place. I’ve been seeing some old friends but also meeting up with a lot of my family (my parents, my aunt and uncle, and my cousins) that are staying here as well. We’re in the middle of nowhere so that means a lot of site seeing, hiking, chatting, and good food. What else do you really need? Well actually, my girlfriend being here would be really nice but sometimes you can’t have it all.

We took a nice hike at Little River Reservoir yesterday and took the historic loop trail which was quite enjoyable. On the trail there was a very old building from I believe the late 1800′s (which I wish I had taken a picture of), some very old cemeteries that are from the early 1800′s, and some plots of old farms with a few remains of old farmhouses. Below is a few shots (again with the iphone pictures) of some sites from the hike.

Little River Trail Picture 2
Above is an old headstone from a cemetery that dates back to early 1860. This guy’s name is Zeruah, I believe. This was from the upper cemetery where most of the people buried where 40 to 50 years old.

The above picture is a gravestone from 1908. This picture was from the lower cemetery of our history loop that we hiked. This woman lived to be 100 years old. Pretty impressive for back then. The other people in the same cemetery also lived long lives ie. 70 – 80 years old.

Above is a picture of a nice, old culvert that went underneath the hiking trail we were on. It’s a nice shot of one of the many streams that we passed by.

Last Thursday on Alberta St.

May 29th, 2009

Well, since my only camera is my iphone and we all know that cell pictures are much to be desired I thought I would link to my friend Jim’s blog which has high quality pictures of Last Thursday on Alberta Street here in Portland.

Here’s the picture slide show and also check out Jim’s blog here.

Some links for the day

May 14th, 2009

Here’s a few nice links I stumbled upon (not the website StumbleUpon) today while online. I’m currently teaching myself PHP but every once in a while I need to take a break to grasp all the new knowledge. I usually check out my iGoogle page which is now has Google’s new “What’s Popular” module. It’s along the same lines as Digg.

I like this site called ffffound because it features a lot of unusual and unique pictures.

From there I found (I guess it would be ffffound) this site from Julian Beever. He does amazing pavement drawings among other beautiful paintings. It’s awesome work but he does need a website overhaul. Below is one of my favorites.

He uses a technique called Anamorphosis. Very nice work!

I’m all about the panorama’s lately

May 1st, 2009

Here is my newest panorama from PGE park in Portland. I checked out a sweet game of soccer there tonight with the Portland Timbers. It was my first semi-pro soccer experience and I can say that it definitely won’t be my last. They got me hooked…

Here’s my panorama (it’s big as you can imagine). Yes, it is another iphone picture as you can see but until I get a decent camera like Jim it’ll have to do. You can see him on the right taking much better and higher resolution pictures than me. I’m sure they are nice as he knows photography much better than I do. In time, in time….

A picture of my favorite niece Jevne. I always like getting an updated picture or two of her to keep me up with what’s going on. She, my sister, and her boyfriend are living it up in Vermont. To bad it’s all the way across the country!
