I’m Not Liking the New Google Local SERP’s and Especially Now.

November 9th, 2010

Google Local is off a bit.

The image says it all. I wasn’t liking the mix of both local and organic results to begin with and, on this search, it doesn’t even show the right cities results. It knows I’m in Portland, OR!!!

Dropbox! Sweet. Get Extra Space For Free Too.

February 24th, 2010

I just signed up for Dropbox.com and it’s a great service. It’s a free (2gb’s of storage) and a paid (plans start at $99 for 50gb’s / month, ouch!) service.  It that allows you to have an online back up of your files and sync them up between computers or with the iphone app they made.  It’s a nice tool if you work across multiple computers such as myself.  I get done my daily work with the design firm I’m with and I stay after to get a few of my own projects done.  Dropbox will allow me to leave my working projects in a Dropbox and make sure that each computer I work on will have the most current version.   It beats carrying around a thumb drive (which I forget half the time) or emailing files all over the place.

Now I’m writing this post as a cheesy way of trying to get my disk space higher on Dropbox. If you use this link to the dropbox site and sign up both parties (the person signing up and the referrer) get an extra 250mb of space up to 3gb.  Pretty good for a free service that works well.

Google add’s me to it’s favorite places!?!

Google's Favorite Place

I’m now one of Google’s Favorite Places.  I’m honored!

Well really,  my house is honored as I’m not the Google favorite place, my house / home office  is.  The information that came with the sticker said that “Delusional Designs” had been looked up 1000+ times on Google Local Listings and 78 people have gotten driving directions to it.  Does it count friends that have previously looked up my address to find where I live and how to get over to my place?

Too bad the map on the sticker doesn’t have the real map on it.  It’s a map of San Fransisco.  Weak!

The sticker is a good idea.  It’s double sided with both sides having the weird bar code area.  It’s not really bars but it a little symbol that they are going to use in the future for identification of locations.  You take a picture of the “bar code” and it checks Google for the business listing.   Interesting idea.  I would take it that they are trying to match and outdo the “People love us on Yelp” stickers I see everywhere around town.  I did hear that Google might buy Yelp!

My new setup at work

November 11th, 2009

I have to say that I’m pretty happy about my new computer setup at my office.  For those that don’t know, I spend my days working full time as a Graphic and Web Designer at Azunga as well running my own business DelusionalDesigns.  This setup is at Azunga where we got two new Hanns-G 22″ Monitors from NewEgg.com running on a nice and zippy desktop with Dual-Core 2.5ghz, 3 gig of RAM, and a NVIDIA Gforce 7100 Video Card.  The shipping for the monitors was quick (ordered on Friday afternoon and arrived on Wednesday morning), they are nice and bright, and there was absolutely no problems or issues with them.  They didn’t include a DVI Cable but I’m not surprised in the least bit.  This is by far nothing top of the line or extreme in the least bit but I do have a nice blue LED light in my case which makes it that much better.  Oh yeah, I’m modded!

Adwords Activation Email Picked up as Spam by Gmail

I’m signing up an Adwords account and I find the activation email caught in the spam messages within my Gmail account. That makes sense to me.
