My wireless router issues?!?

So I’ve got a problem I can’t find anyone else having anywhere online.

My wireless router consistently and now constantly is giving all the computers on my home network a “limited or no connectivity” status when connecting to my router. No internet, no networking, nothing…

I don’t think it’s any of the computers on the network because we have two iphones, four laptops, and one desktop connected to it. The desktop is wired and is fine all the time. The wireless computers and phones all get the same “limited or no connectivity” status all at the same time. I mean same time because I reset the router (soft reset) and everything is fine for a random amount of time and all sudden all the computers drop off, switching the connection status from “connected” to “limited or no connectivity”. Usually within an hour or two of the reset. All the computers and phones work on wireless networks other places just fine. I’ve changed settings on the router to default, I’ve hard reseted it, changed network names, changed passwords, and any thing I can think of to try anything.

The kicker is this is the second router to do this… Both times both routers are D-Links and both are/where very close to a Xeon HP Workstation PC which is a pretty ridiculous machine, as in bigger, clunky, and loud.

I also notice that my iphone is messed up and echoed when I’m using it next to the desktop. I wonder if I’m slowly getting radiated or something!

Has anyone ever heard of a router going bad because it’s too close to a box (CPU)? I wonder if anyone has had this same issue?

I can’t find any report of it anywhere online yet. I really don’t want to buy another router. I tried moving both routers to the basement away from the desktop and it’s still acting the same. Wonder if if the router (both) are now damaged and junk!

Hit me up if you have any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions!

  • Sounds like a bad router to me. Have you tried upgrading the router’s firmware?

Also sounds like your desktop is putting out some bad vibes! Time to relocate that sucker.

  • Yeah. I moved my old router, that I thought was dead from the same issue, into the basement. Yeah it works now… got some rewiring to do.
